Skills, well the more versatile you are (sheet metal, composite repair, troubleshooting, machining, ext.) the more you stand out to management so it would suffice to say that your chances of promotion into management are better;however, keep in mind that most shops are unionized so seniority usually plays a bigger role than ability.
